The Oryx GTL facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
Oryx, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (51 percent) and Sasol of South Africa (49 percent) operates a second-generation gas-to-liquids (GTL) complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
Construction of the facility began in late 2003 and it began producing final product in January 2007.
The facility is supplied with 330,000 cubic feet per day of lean methane-rich gas from the Qatar North gas field and is able to produce 34,000 barrels per day of liquids (24,000 barrels of GTL diesel, 9,000 barrels of naphtha and 1,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas).
The GTL diesel from Oryx has attractive environmental and performance characteristics relative to conventional diesel derived from crude oil and can be used in current and envisaged diesel engines without modification.
